In times past dog owners were restricted as to where they went on vacation, holiday get-a-way or even visiting a family member away at school. Being prepared while on the road or arriving at your destination can either make or break a pleasant experience.

As the dog industry continues to explode with more and more dog travel products available, pet owners are able to provide a safe environment for four-legged traveling companions. First on the list is a quality dog seatbelt or traveling dog crate to keep your dog restrained should the unfortunate happen. Remember to bring along your dogs favorite treat. If your dog can get a little antsy on long trips, having that favorite treat along, you know the one they’ll do just about anything to have, will help keep them focused on something other than the moving car.

The dog apparel industry is also growing in leaps and bounds and packing a coat or protective dog safety vest is a must if boating and swimming are on the agenda. Taking along a good supply of dog toys and their prized chew toy will help ensure that is the only thing in the hotel that is chewed on.

In addition, if your dog is taking any medication a first aid kit is a handy place to keep pills and lotions. There are other accessories to consider bringing on your trip such as dog sunglasses or dog goggles, a dog umbrella, and dog stroller for those long walks in highly public places – safer for both your dog and passers-by.
